About Me

Hello, I am Scott Coffman, a DevOps & Web Systems Consultant based in Charleston, West Virginia. I help small teams and individuals make their technology more reliable, easier to understand, and less painful to maintain.
My Background
I have spent the last eight plus years working across Linux systems, automation, and web infrastructure, including enterprise environments and federal contracting work. A lot of my work has been in environments where security and uptime matter, which has shaped how I approach systems.
I focus on steady improvements, clear documentation, and solutions that are easy to operate after I leave.
What I Do
Most of my work falls into a few buckets.
Automation and cleanup
Turning manual steps into repeatable scripts, playbooks, or simple workflows.
Infrastructure reliability
Fixing recurring deployment issues, tightening monitoring and alerting, and reducing surprises during updates.
Practical security
Hardening, patching, backups, access cleanup, and guardrails that fit the size of the team.
Clear explanations and handoff
Fixing problems while also making sure you understand what changed and how to keep it running.
Skills and Tools
These are the tools and areas I work with most often.
- Linux systems and troubleshooting
- Automation with Ansible
- Scripting (Go, Python, Bash)
- CI workflows and deployments
- Containers (Docker, Podman)
- Monitoring and logging (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)
- AWS fundamentals and cloud hygiene
- Server hardening, backups, and access control
- DNS, Cloudflare, and web hosting basics
Outside of Work
When I am not working, you can usually find me:
- Spending time with my family
- Helping run infrastructure for All Things Linux

Recommendations
“Randy worked as member of a larger team coding software for my vitamin & supplement tracking app, where he consistently made positive contributions. Randy communicated his progress during daily standup meetings and responded to feedback with a high degree of professionalism. He worked on a variety of things over the course of several months and showed an aptitude for quickly learning and implementing new concepts. Highly recommended.”
